Piano Lessons for the Beginning Student – What Every Parent Needs to Know
June 21, 2010
If you would like your child to learn piano lessons as a beginning student, it’s important to know the best ways to encourage their growth so they achieve the maximum amount of success possible. Having a great teacher who’s knowledgeable about teaching piano, and enrolling your child in weekly lessons are just two important parts of your child’s beginning piano journey. Another important part of the equation has to do with the parents encouragement and helping the child stay focused on growing through practice each week.
Here’s some steps you can use to encourage your child to achieve success through piano lessons:
1. Each week the piano teacher will focus on a new aspect of playing piano. It’s important that you encourage your child to practice daily.
2. Set aside plenty of time each day for your child to practice. Creating a routine daily time will help them build consistency and ensure that quality practice time is not neglected.
3. Help your child familiarize themselves with different chords by asking them to show you where to press the right keys for each chord. Have them demonstrate the difference between low pitched and high pitched chords. This exercise will help them to remember the placement of their fingers on the keyboard and encourage them to share what they learned.
4. Go through the beginner piano book with your child and ask them which songs they are excited to learn. Taking an interest in what they are learning will encourage the child to share with you when they learn a new piece and create an atmosphere of excitement & exploration.
5. Become your child biggest fan. Piano lessons for the beginning student can be difficult at first. Since learning the piano is an essence like learning a new language, becoming your child’s biggest fan will encourage them to participate. Find a way to let your child know you appreciate the way they are filling your home with music every day.
